CITY OF ARMAGH II 26 - 0 RAINEY II

2nds League 16th September 2023

Rainey II travelled to the Palace Grounds in Armagh to face one of the toughest opposition setups they will face all season.  With a much-changed team, the Rainey side were on the wrong end of a 26-0 defeat, although the scoreline didn’t reflect the team’s performance.

The visitors limited Armagh to a solitary unconverted try in first half, as fullback Andrew Donaghy had an excellent game, with his kicking for territory and touch keeping the Rainey team on the front foot as much as possible.

It couldn’t last however, and with the Rainey set-pieces under pressure, the second half belonged to the home side as they ran in a further three converted tries. Winger Andrew Walker had an opportunity to bag a consolation try while Rainey enjoyed a penalty advantage, but the chance went begging.  Young Rainey centre Ethan Canavan was Rainey’s best performer on the day.
