Provincial League Div 1 29th December 2018
Scorers: O'Neill(1*Try), Kearns(1*Try, 2*Conv), Hall(1*Try), Lynch(1*Try)
With some of his regular squad on 1st XV duty, 2nd XV coach Peter Boyle had to introduce some new faces for the short trip to Dungannon for their game with Dungannon II in the Provincial League 1. They did themselves, their coach and the club proud, coming from behind to record a very satisfying 24-12 victory. This could well have been the youngest side ever to represent Rainey in a senior game and they showed great promise. Solid in every aspect of forward play and inventive behind the scrum, they were most impressive.
Following an intercept try, Dungannon led 7-0 until the fifteenth minute when hooker Daniel O' Neill opened Rainey's account. Centre Ryan Kearns scored and converted a try to give them a 12-7 half-time lead. Dungannon drew level, but the final half hour belonged to Rainey. Sustained pressure ended with out-half Gareth Hall going in for a try which the prolific Kearns converted and the match-winning try began with a break on the Rainey 22'. A little kick over the head of the home full-back was chased by right-wing Ciaran Lynch who finished off in style in the corner.
