Rainey OB III moved into the last eight of the McCambley Cup with a fine 29-17 victory over Ballynahinch VII at Ballymacarn Park. The Evergreens used their experience to make themselves competitive for a long time, but a young, improving Rainey side took over in the last quarter as their fitness began to tell. Scrum-half McNabb's alertness brought him two tries with centre Friel also grabbing a brace and kicking two conversions. Team captain Phelim Trainor has been working in England, but was pleased to be home to play in this game.

RAINEY III 22 - 7 STRABANE III
Regional West 24th February 2018
Scorers: Hunter(2*Try), Hall(1*Try), Devlin(1*Try), Lloyd-Evans(1*Conv)
Rainey OB III made it five wins on the trot to remain unbeaten in their section of the Regional League when they beat Strabane III by 22 - 7 at Hatrick Park. It was a good contest between two evenly matched sides. Rainey's back play was impressive throughout and it was how they opened the scoring after ten minutes. From a five metre scrum, they moved it smartly along the line for wing Adam Hunter to finish in style. Strabane then had the better of it for a spell to run in a converted try, but full-back Devlin crossed just before the interval to leave Rainey 10 - 7 ahead.
Centres Friel and Sanderson saw plenty of the ball as Rainey tried to stretch the play at every opportunity. Out-half Gareth Hall touched down under the posts for another converted try and Hunter scored again to seal a good win.

RAINEY III 24 - 34 BALLYMENA IV
McCambley Cup 16th December 2017
Ballymena IV called on their experience to beat a profligate Rainey III side 34-24 in the second round of the McCambley Cup at Hatrick Park. Rainey would probably have gone on to win the game had they not butchered three glorious chances in the second half. Rainey had the services of a couple of their more senior players for this game, but while their scrum held their own, they won very little lineout ball. At half-time, Ballymena led 8-6. Rainey actually led 16-11 at a stage with tries from McCrea and McSwiggan keeping them in touch. But, while the seasoned visitors took their chances, Rainey did not make the ball do the work and were made to pay for their generosity.
