Rainey III created a little bit of club history last Saturday when three generations of the McMurray family took to the pitch to face Limavady II. DD McMurray came off the bench to join sons Jody and Damien, and grandson Shea, as the 3s enjoyed a 0-24 bonus point victory at the John Hunter Grounds, with the McMurrays contributing 14 points to the total.

Rainey II travelled to the Palace Grounds in Armagh to face one of the toughest opposition setups they will face all season. With a much-changed team, the Rainey side were on the wrong end of a 26-0 defeat, although the scoreline didn’t reflect the team’s performance.

Rainey recorded their first win of the season in front of a jubilant crowd at Hatrick Park last Saturday, defeating local rivals Ballymena 31 – 7. The win brought the club the runners-up spot in Group B of the Ulster Premiership Division 1 and secured their place in the quarter finals of the Ulster Senior Cup. Ballymena – 14 times Senior Cup winners – are at risk of dropping out of this season’s competition after this result left them languishing at the bottom of Group B.
